Welcome to The OncoBiology.com

A network of researchers, physicians and health professionals. Our members are concerned with cancer and its related topics. We aim to focus on cancer biology and biotherapeutics.

Cancer cells are made up by the uncontrolled cell division produced by accumulated abnormal genes. These abnormal genes direct the cell to behave differently not only from normal cells but also from one patient to another at different degrees of aggressiveness. With recent advances in biotechnology the identification of ‘gene signatures’ for each particular cancer type in each patient hopefully will be possible. This will be the best avenue to prescribe the specific treatment for that cancer in that person.

BIOTHERAPUTICS

Research in signaling pathways that direct cells to grow or not is one of the hottest areas in cancer research. Abnormalities in these pathways help cancer cell to grow and spread.

Drugs that target and block different steps in these signaling pathways (Targeted therapy) are no more dreams but reality.

They include:

Rituxan (Rituximab)

Herceptin (Trastuzumab)

Tarceva (Erlotinib)

Imatinib (Glivec)

Bevacizumab (Avastin)
